In a new tweet, the developer clarified that crossplay would be available on day one but “party creation will be specific to each platform ecosystem.” It means that Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows Store users can party together, but not with PS4, PS5 or Steam players. The omission is particularly glaring for Steam users since they can’t party with anyone on other platforms or storefronts. In fact, the company has already started showing off the shooter to select people behind-closed-doors. As reported recently by Charlie Intel on Twitter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was being shown off to NBA stars at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas over the weekend. The showing was reportedly hands-off, with a demo of the game being showcased. Of course, this is par for the course for a new Call of Duty game in the lead-up to its worldwide reveal, which would suggest that the franchise’s next instalment will be revealed soon. Sure enough, leaks have previously indicated that the game will be unveiled in August, ahead of releasing in November. Though it hasn’t yet been officially announced details on this year’s Call of Duty game have emerged aplent courtesy of several leaks over the last few months, with the game allegedly set to be developed by Sledgehammer Games as a direct follow-up to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. Now it seems Activision is also gearing up to officially unveil the game.
2K and Visual Concepts have officially unveiled NBA 2K24, which is promising improvements in gameplay and animations, cross-play support in a first for the series, and more. However, it seems many of these headlining changes and additions won’t be featured in the game’s PC version. The last three instalments in the NBA 2K franchise have seen PC players missing out on improvements made to the experience on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and that will be the case once again this year. In its announcement, 2K has confirmed that cross-play will only be compatible on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as will the new ProPLAY technology and its improvements in animations. That means NBA 2K24 on PC will have parity with PS4 and Xbox One versions rather than their next-gen counterparts. NBA hasn’t been the only annual sports franchise in the industry that has places restrictions on its PC versions in recent years. For instance, that was the case with FIFA as well, though the EA series ended that trend with last year’s instalment. Given the fact that we’re nearly three years into the current console generation, said restrictions continuing to this point has to come as a disappointment to NBA players on PC. NBA 2K24 is set to launch on September 8.
Publisher Deep Silver and developer Volition have announced that the second DLC expansion for Saints Row, titled Doc Ketchum’s Murder Circus, is out now on all platforms. Check out the launch trailer for the DLC below. Doc Ketchum’s Murder Circus, the second of three total planned DLCs for Saints Row, brings with it a new solo horde mode that throws players into Doc Ketchum’s competitive underground game show. The DLC allows players to pick from four new playable characters, each featuring their own unique skillset and arsenal. Alongside the DLC, Saints Row also got a free update that brings with it a visual revamp of the Boost Hill District, complete with new things to discover. The update brings with it a new Cheat App mode, and other quality-of-life improvements. Saints Row is slated to get its final DLC, A Song of Dust and Ice, in August. The final DLC is slated to be the biggest one for the game yet. Saints Row is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Having created the BioShock franchise and worked on the likes of Thief and System Shock, Ken Levine has been widely regarded as a pioneer in the immersive sim genre, and there’s been no shortage of curiosity around what he has in the work next. Now, Levine and his studio Ghost Story Games have unveiled their debut title- Judas. Judas is a first person immersive sim that Ghost Story Games describes as a single player narrative-driven game. The trailer is brief, but shows some impressive in-engine gameplay, while the game’s unique visual aesthetic also catches the eye. Check out the trailer below. Judas is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. There’s no word on when it will be announced, but Levine said earlier this year that the game wouldn’t be announced until it was relatively close to launch, so take from that what you will. Reports in June also claimed that Ghost Story Games’ debut title was facing development issues behind the scenes- read more on that through here.

The Embracer Group has grown massively over the course of several years, having made a bevy of acquisitions over a sustained period of time that has seen the company bringing a large number of big and small studios under its umbrella. Given the sheer quantity of studios that now operate under the Embracer Group banner, it’s no surprise that the company has a large number of games currently in development. How many exactly though? Literally hundreds. In its most recent fiscal report (pg. 8), Embracer Group revealed that it is currently planning to launch as many as 234 games for PC and console platforms between now and the end of March 2023. Of these, 25 titles will be big-budget AAA projects. No further details are provided. Going through the biggest studios under Embracer Group’s belt, the earliest known upcoming AAA release is Dambuster Studios’ Dead Island 2, which was recently delayed to April. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake’s development seems to have moved over to Saber Interactive, while Crystal Dynamics is working on the next Tomb Raider game. Eidos Montreal, interestingly, is rumoured to be working on multiple titles, one of which is allegedly a new Deus Ex game. There’s also 4A Games, which is at work on the next Metro title, in addition to what seems to be a new FPS IP.
Ascendant Studios’ Immortals of Aveum was set to launch this month but faced a delay to August 22nd. CEO and game director Bret Robbins said more details would be revealed in the weeks leading to release, which includes a new combat breakdown – the video debuts on July 6th at 9 AM PST on YouTube. It purports to detail the first-person combat, with three different Colors of magic (Red, Green and Blue), with 25 Spells to choose from. Players can customize protagonist Jak with more than 80 Talents and several magical gear pieces. Chapters 3 and 8 were captured during a hands-on session at Summer Game Fest Play Days last month. It provided a closer look at the overall flow of combat, using different Colors against specific enemies and exploiting mobility to traverse the battlefield. Check it out here. Immortals of Aevum is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Stay tuned for more details when the combat breakdown goes live.

Nintendo took a great many people by surprise with the announcement of a remake of Super Mario RPG in its Direct presentation last month, and new details on the game have been filtering out since its reveal- including whether or not the core members of the SNES original’s development team are involved in the remake’s development as well. One who isn’t involved with the remake is Chihiro Fujioka, who do-directed Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Responding to a question on Twitter, Fujioka – who also worked on several Mario and Luigi titles – revealed that he is “not involved in the remake”. Fujioka said he was “very surprised” by the announcement, indicating he may not have known about the remake’s development prior to its announcement, but added that he was “pleased” with the reveal and was looking forward to the game’s launch later this year. Someone who was involved with the original game who will be returning for the remake is composer Yoko Shimomura, who recently confirmed that she will be serving in the same role for the upcoming game. Super Mario RPG Remake is set to launch on November 17 for the Nintendo Switch.

The wait for Test Drive Unlimited has dragged on a little longer than many would have expected. Announced back in 2020, the open world racer was originally set to launch in September 2022, before being delayed to sometime in 2023. However, it seems publisher Nacon may have pushed the game’s launch further by a few months again. In a recently published financial document (spotted by Proteus Gaming), Nacon has its upcoming titles listed for the current fiscal year, with release windows and dates also mentioned for those games. According to this graphic, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is now set to launch sometime in Q1 2024. Interestingly, the graphic also mentions PS4 and Xbox One as target platforms for the game, though Nacon and developer KT Racing announced last year that those versions had been cancelled. A delay for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown hasn’t been officially announced yet, so it remains to be seen whether the Q1 2024 launch window mentioned in the financial document is an error or a premature confirmation of a delay. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Gfk’s UK physical sales charts aren’t available yet, but some stats are available courtesy of GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring. He revealed on Twitter that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is back at the top spot, unseating Final Fantasy 16. Physical sales for the Nintendo Switch title are up 18 percent, while Final Fantasy 16’s sales dropped by 78 percent. The latter saw a weaker opening in the UK than Final Fantasy 15, though it was ahead of Dead Island 2 and Diablo 4. Square Enix has since announced over three million worldwide shipments and digital sales in the RPG’s launch week. Among the new titles debuting is AEW: Fight Forever, which entered the charts in third place and sold 40 percent less than WWE 2K23. Not terrible, considering it’s the first officially licensed title from All Elite Wrestling. Meanwhile, Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life debuted in seventh place.
Developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have announced a new game. Titled John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, the game will be a co-op shooter inspired by quite heavily by action and horror movies of the 80s. Check out the trailer below. While not too many details about John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando have been revealed, the trailer does give us quite a good look at the game’s tone, setting, and even some gameplay. Going by the trailer, the title won’t be taking itself too seriously, and will instead focus on providing players with hordes of enemies to gun down. The trailer also indicates that the game will feature vehicular combat, and goes as far as showing off how gunplay works while riding on a vehicle. The trailer also gave us glimpses of other gameplay features, like using a vehicle to tow another vehicle that might be stuck in a ditch. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is currently available to wishlist on the Epic Games Store, but doesn’t yet have a release date.
NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 has received tons of buzz after its announcement trailer and the first gameplay video. There’s plenty of hands-on footage and even an online stress test that recently concluded. Fortunately, fans can look forward to more en route to the pre-order beta in August. Series co-creator and creative director Ed Boon announced on Twitter that another gameplay trailer is coming “soon” with reveals for even more main and Kameo fighters. How soon is “soon” remains to be seen, but sometime this week seems reasonable. Thus far, NetherRealm has confirmed Liu Kang, Raiden, Kitana, Mileena, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Reiko, Kenshi and Shang Tsung are playable characters. As for Kameo Fighters, Sub-Zero, Goro, Stryker, Kano, Jax Briggs and Sonya Blade are confirmed. Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Post-launch, players can expect even more characters, with Peacemaker, Omni Man, Homelander, Ermac, Quan-Chi, and Takeda rumored.
Microsoft has several major first party releases lineup up for Xbox this year, but there’s little doubt in anyone’s mind that the biggest game of the lot is Bethesda’s upcoming space-faring RPG Starfield. Due out in the first half of 2023, it’s generated a massive amount of hype and excitement- though there’s a chance that we’ll be waiting for it a little longer than anticipated.
That’s as per YouTuber MrMattyPlays, who recently said on an episode of the Defining Duke podcast that, based on what he’s heard from a source he trusts “quite a bit”, Starfield is in line to get delayed again. He clarifies that it won’t be a significant delay- though the game is likely getting pushed out of the first half of 2023, it’s still allegedly targeting a Summer launch, which means it should be out before September (unless it gets delayed again, of course).
Given Xbox’s release schedule for first party titles in the coming months, this wouldn’t come as a massive surprise. Redfall is supposedly launching this May, while Forza Motorsport and Minecraft Legends are also due out sometime in Spring- to some extent, it would make sense that Microsoft pushes out Starfield by another couple of months to space out its big releases a little bit more. Bethesda did recently reiterate that Starfield is still set to release in the first of the the year though, so there’s that.
Of course, Starfield is getting a standalone showcase in the near future that’ll provide another extended look at the game, and there’s a good chance we end up getting concrete details about its release date there, so stay tuned.
